HiFi Lovers · Editorial framing
Cover anatomy — Collector Special Issue No. 1 — HiFi Lovers × Yamaha
Context
I'm finishing the cover for the first HiFi Lovers special issue (mook format, newsstand), in partnership with Yamaha. I wanted to structure the visual hierarchy by drawing on the grammar of Marvel/Image comics from the 80s–90s, particularly to frame the content of the left corner box.
What was built
- Comparative analysis of iconic comic covers (Marvel, Image) — zones A through E and their logic
- Annotated layout diagram: corner box / masthead / artwork / info strip / collector badge
- Content validation: legible No. 1, month + year, price €20 in red #C6121F, Japanese text kept
- Choice of "Collector Special Issue" for the top banner
- Two low-fidelity B&W and color mockups — passed to Christine for the real execution
What was hard / unexpected
- Claude's low-fidelity art direction has its limits — useful for the brief, not for final execution
- The month vs. year-only question remains open (impact on visual "expiry" on the newsstand)
Stack
Visualizer (HTML/CSS mockup), HiFi Lovers 2026 Brand Guidelines (primary colors #C6121F, Transducer Extended Black + Satoshi typography).
What this illustrates
Claude as an editorial and structural framing tool — reference analysis, formalizing a visual grammar, helping brief the designer — without claiming to replace a real art director's eye.
Still to do
- Decision: month vs. year only
- Final execution by Christine in InDesign
